The Wall Street Journal has named MIT one of the overall best colleges in the United States, as well as one of the best colleges at improving the financial futures of its graduates, reports Jeremy Fox for The Boston Globe. 

Forbes has named MIT among the top colleges on their America’s Top Colleges list, reports Beth Treffeisen for Boston.com. “Forbes ranked the schools based on alumni salaries, debt, graduation rates, return on investment, retention rates, academic success, and its own “American Leaders List,” including Forbes 30 Under 30 and Forbes 400,” explains Treffeisen. 

The Wall Street Journal has named MIT the top university in the country for improving the financial future of its graduates, reports Kevin McAllister for The Wall Street Journal. “At MIT, paths to successful careers often stem from in-class experiences,” writes McAllister. “Former MIT students contacted for this story were generally quick to credit influential professors and their classroom methods, such as teaching critical thinking.”

The Princeton Review has named MIT amongst the 10 most studious colleges, reports Kamaron McNair for CNBC. “The publication takes schools from its annual list of Best Colleges and ranks them on different metrics based on student surveys,” explains McNair. “Its ranking of schools where students study the most is based on the results of a survey asking students how many hours outside of class they spend studying each day.” 

MIT ranks high on the Forbes’ America’s Top Colleges list of colleges providing the best ROI, reports Forbes’ Francesca Walton. Walton notes that MIT offers its students “stellar ROIs.” The magazine applied various economic metrics to Forbes’ top 500 colleges list, yielding “25 schools that offer a low-debt education and promise high earnings potential,” Walton explains. 

MIT ranked third in a list of "2025 Best Value Colleges in America" reports Aislinn Murphy for Fox Business. Education data website Niche compiled a list ranking more than 1,000 four-year colleges and universities using various economic metrics. It also named MIT as best in academics.

MIT is the world’s No.1 university for the 13^th year in a row, according to the latest global university rankings from publisher QS Top Universities. 

The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) topped the list of Supply Chain Digital’s best places to pursue an education in supply chain logistics and management, reports Tom Chapman. “Over the years, MIT CTL has made significant contributions to supply chain and logistics and has helped numerous companies gain a competitive advantage thanks to its cutting-edge research,” writes Chapman.  

MIT has been named to the number two spot in Times Higher Education’s world reputation rankings, reports Times Higher Education. MIT is “dedicated to the teaching of science and technology. The sheer number of Nobel laureates affiliated with the institution – an impressive 101 – reveals the caliber of MIT graduates,” Times Higher Education notes. “Scientific discoveries and technological advances to come out of the college include the first chemical synthesis of penicillin, the development of radar, the discovery of quarks and the invention of magnetic core memory, which aided the development of digital computers.”

MIT has been named to the Wall Street Journal and College Pulse list of the 2024  top midsize colleges in the Northeast, reports Gerard Yates for The Wall Street Journal. Rankings are based on three factors: Student outcomes, the learning environment and the diversity of a school’s students and faculty, Yates explains.

MIT was “more highly recommended by its students than any other school in the Northeast,” according to the Wall Street Journal / College Pulse 2024 Best Colleges in the U.S. “The Wall Street Journal commissioned a survey of more than 60,000 college students and recent graduates, conducted by College Pulse, to gather their views on the learning environment at their school,” writes The Wall Street Journal. “As part of that survey, respondents ranked how highly they would recommend their college.”

MIT has been named to Times Higher Education’s 2024 World’s Best Universities list, reports Cecilia Rodriguez for Forbes. “The largest edition of the World University Rankings 2024 includes 1,904 universities—up from 1,799 last year—from 108 countries and regions, assessing research-intensive universities across 18 performance indicators covering their core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and internationalization,” writes Rodriguez.

MIT was named to the number two spot in U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of the top universities, reports WBZ.

MIT has been ranked one of the top universities in the world by U.S. News & World Report, writes Emily Sweeney for The Boston Globe. Sweeney writes that the ranking “looked at approximately 1,500 colleges and universities and evaluated them on 19 measures of academic quality — this year changing its methodology to put more emphasis on social mobility and the outcomes of graduating students.”

Forbes contributor Michael Nietzel spotlights how MIT was named among the top universities in the U.S. for the economic value it returns to its students, according to a new ranking by Degreechoices. “At MIT, students earn $111,222 on average ten years after attending, and it takes those receiving federal aid under a year, on average, to pay back their total cost of attendance,” writes Nietzel. “Those numbers are consistent with MIT’s reputation for producing a large number of STEM graduates with very strong earning power.”
