Junior wins Louis Kampf writing prize for her essay

Marion Jones, a junior in electrical engineering and computer science (EECS), is the recipient of this year's Louis Kampf Writing Prize in Gender and Women's Studies for her essay "Trial and Imprisonment," a piece which compares Franz Kafka's novel "The Trial" with Nawal el Saadawi's autobiography "Memoirs From the Women's Prison."

The prize, sponsored by the Program in Women's Studies, was started in 1995-96 both to honor Louis Kampf, distinguished professor emeritus of Literature and Women's Studies who retired from the Institute in 1996, and to reward high quality undergraduate writing in women's and gender studies. It was formerly awarded with the Ilona Karmel Writing Prizes.

Winnie Yang , a senior in EECS and literature from Chesterfield, Mo., received an honorable mention for "Across-the-Bridge Noodles."
